What is the main problem with CNG Cars

I consider there to be only 2 major drawbacks of buying a CNG vehicle. The biggest reason is the fuel station infrastructure. Yes, it is very easy to fill petrol and diesel in India but it is equally difficult to fill CNG at a fuel station. I will share my 2 personal experiences with you, after which you will understand that it is right not to buy CNG for this reason.

  • Reason For Not Buying A CNG Car: I always have to keep petrol reserve in my CNG car and there are two reasons for this, firstly the engine of the car starts with petrol only and secondly, CNG is not available everywhere, hence we have to keep petrol filled for an emergency.
  • Reason 2: We buy CNG cars thinking that petrol is expensive. But what is the use of a CNG engine car when you have to fill petrol? Once I had to go 100 km from my home and the CNG in my car had finished, so I thought I would fill it from a CNG station before leaving. But when I left home and reached the fuel station, I saw that the line was very long, so I thought I would fill CNG from some other fuel station on the way. But when I reached another CNG fuel station, CNG was not being filled there due to lack of electricity. Finally, I got tired and had to fill petrol in the car. I felt very sad that day thinking why did I buy a CNG car when I had to fill it with petrol every time?

Decreased Power Output

There is indeed a slight difference in power if you choose a CNG engine. CNG engines cannot provide the same pickup and torque to the vehicle as a petrol engine does. But is this drawback worth thinking about? According to me, no. This is because India does not have the infrastructure to drive your car at a good speed and enjoy riding. There are potholes on the roads here and at many places, there are no red lights, so how will you be able to enjoy the power of your car’s engine?
